Stilboestrol is a synthetic hormone. Stilboestrol is used as a contraceptive. Stilboestrol is used to treat symptoms associated with menopause. It may also be used to prevent osteoporosis (bone loss), amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding and to inhibit growth of prostate and breast cancer

Indications

Stilboestrol is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjunct in the treatment of opiod dependence, Oncology, Prostatic cancer.

Stilboestrol is also indicated for secondary conditions like Breast cancer, Prostate cancer.

Side Effects

Stilboestrol in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Impotence , Testicular atrophy , Thromboembolic disorder , Thrombosis .

Stilboestrol produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hepatotoxicity , Thromboembolic disease. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Stilboestrol are Nausea & vomiting.

Stilboestrol is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Breast discomfort, Breast enlargement, Nausea and vomiting, Nipple tenderness.

Warnings / Precautions

High doses of estrogen used in treatment of malignant disease should be used cautiously in patients with cerebrovascular disorder, cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, venous thromboembolism or liver impairment. Estrogens should be used with caution in children, because premature closure of epiphysis may occur resulting in inhibited linear growth and small stature. Slow infusion is not recommended, because cytotoxic concentration of drug is not achieved. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Interference in Pathology

Stilboestrol may interfere in the diagnosis of Test for Oestrogen measurement in Urine .
