Elimination: it is metabolised via Hepatic, plasma half-life is 3 hr, renal excretion is 90%.

Indications

Risperidone is primarily indicated in conditions like Anovulatory infertility, Psychosis, Schizophrenia.

Risperidone is also indicated for secondary conditions like Metastatic melanoma.

Contraindications

Risperidone is contraindicated in conditions like Epilepsy, Phaeochromocytoma, Thyrotoxicosis, Coma, Parkinson's disease, Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects

Risperidone in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Torsades de pointes, Parkinsonism , Ventricular tachycardia , Neuroleptic malignant syndrome .

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Risperidone are Hypotension, Lethargy, Somnolence, Muscular rigidity.

Risperidone is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Agitation , Anxiety, Blurred vision, Constipation , Dizziness, Fatigue, Headache, Increased intracranial pressure, Insomnia, Nausea, Photosensitivity, Rashes , Rhinitis , Urinary incontinence, Vomiting .

Warnings / Precautions

Risperidone should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or lactation. It should be used with caution in patients with pre-existing kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, seizure disorder, blood disorders, breast cancer or if have any allergy. It may make patient more sensitive to the sun, avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when outdoors.
