Rho (D) Immune Globulin is a sterile solution of globulins derived from human plasma containing antibody to the erythrocyte factor Rh? (D) antigen. Rho (D) Immune Globulin is used to prevent a Rh-negative mother from forming antibodies to fetal Rh-positive cells which may pass into the maternal circulation. The objective is to protect any subsequent child from the hazard of the haemolytic disease of the newborn. Anti-D immunoglobulin should be administered following any sensitizing episode e.g abortion, miscarriage and birth.

Indications

Rho (D) Immune Globulin is primarily indicated in conditions like Erythroblastosis fetalis, Immune thrombocytopenic purpura, Rhesus blood mismatch.

Contraindications

Rho (D) Immune Globulin is contraindicated in conditions like Anaphylactic reactions, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.

Side Effects

Rho (D) Immune Globulin is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Chills, Fever, Headache, Hyperthermia , Lethargy, Local pain, Myalgia, Splenomegaly .

Immune globulin should be used with caution in patients with any pre-existing illness, blood disorders or any allergy, including any drug allergy. It should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
