Side Effects

Povidone-Iodine in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Renal impairment , Hypernatremia, Hypersensitivity reactions , Hyperthyroidism , Metabolic acidosis , Iododerma .

Povidone-Iodine is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Local edema, Mucous membrane irritation, Pruritus , Rashes , Skin irritation.

Warnings / Precautions

Highly toxic if ingested, sodium thiosulfate is the most effective chemical antidote, avoid contact with eyes. Regular or prolonged use should be avoided in patient with thyroid disorders or those receiving lithium therapy.
