Benzathine Penicillin has the same antimicribial activity as benzylpenicillin to which Benzathine Penicillin is hydrolyzed gradually following deep intramuscular injection. its use should be restricted to micro-organisms that are highly susceptible to benzylpenicillin.

Indications
Benzathine Penicillin is primarily indicated in conditions like Acute otitis media, Bacterial infections, Diphtheria carriers, Gonorrhoea, Penicillin sensitive infections, Prophylaxis of rheumatic fever, Streptococal impetigo, Syphilis.
Contraindications
Benzathine Penicillin is contraindicated in conditions like Seizures.

Side Effects

Benzathine Penicillin may interfere in the diagnosis of Urinary tests for aminolaevulinic acid, estrogens, 17-ketogenic steroids & 17-ketosteroids , Urinary tests for 17-OH Corticosteroids, protien & sugar. , Serum tests for uric acids , Biological tests for serum folate , Serum electrophoresis , False +ve Coombs Test .
