Sulphacetamide is a synthetic sulfonamide antibiotic for ophthalmic or topical administration. Sulfacetamide, because Sulphacetamide is water soluble and because a 30% solution has a pH of 7.4, is an ideal sulfonamide for ophthalmic administration. Despite the favorable pharmaceutical properties, use of sulfonamides in general has declined due to development of resistance.

Sulphacetamide is primarily indicated in conditions like Blepharitis, Conjuctivitis, Eye infections, Vaginosis.

Sulphacetamide is contraindicated in conditions like Herpes simplex infections, Renal failure, Corneal infection.
