Sulindac is NSAID, non-steroidal antinflammatory drug. It also possesses analgesic and antipyretic properties. Sulindac is a sulfoxide and is structurally related to Indomethacin. Sulindac is a prodrug, effective only when Sulindac is converted to a sulfide by liver enzymes. It relieves pain and reduces fever and inflammation.

Side Effects

Sulindac produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Blood dyscrasias, GI bleeding, Allergic reactions. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

Sulindac is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Constipation , Dizziness, Drowsiness, Headache, Nausea, Pruritus , Rashes .

Warnings / Precautions

Sulindac should be used with caution in patients with intrinsic coagulation defects and those on anticoagulant therapy. It should be used with caution in patients with compromised cardiac function, hypertension other condition predisposing to fluid retention. It should be used with extra care in the presence of existing controlled infection. Perform periodic auditory function test during chronic therapy. Discontinue drug if skin reaction occurs.

Interference in Pathology

Sulindac may interfere in the diagnosis of Liver Function Test (LFT) .
