Sennosides is a natural complex of anthraquinone glycosides found in senna, isolated from Cassia angustifolia. Sennosides is a laxative. Sennosides is used in constipation, causes the evacuation of bowel and also used to clear the intestine before rectal or bowel examinations.

Side Effects

Sennosides in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Cathartic colon , Muscularis mucosae hypertrophies , Schwann cell proliferation , Dilated aperistaltic colon , GI smooth muscle atrophy, Submucosal depletion of adipose tissue , Pseudo strictures , Loss of colonic haustral pattern .

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Sennosides are Dehydration.

Sennosides is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal cramps, Abdominal discomfort, Diarrhea, Nausea.

Warnings / Precautions

Sennoside should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, oedema or allergy, especially to tartrazine.
