Indications
Ipecac is primarily indicated in conditions like Acute oral drug overdose, Emesis induction in oral poisoning, Productive cough.
Contraindications
Ipecac is contraindicated in conditions like Unconciousness, Poisoning with corrosive agents, Ingestion of petroleum distillates, Ingestion of CNS stimulants, Antiemetic poisoning.

Side Effects
Ipecac in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Diarrhoea , Hypotension , Proteinuria , Hypotension , Ventricular tachycardia , Dyspnea, Oedema , Persistent vomiting, Ventricular ectopics , Chest pain , ECG abnormalities, Atrial tachycardia, Proteinuria, proteinuria.
Ipecac produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Convulsions , Gastric damage, Mallory-weiss syndrome, Pneumomediastinum, Retropneumoperitoneum, Diaphragmatic rupture, Myopathy, Neuropathy , Diaphragmatic rupture, Aspiration pneumonia. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.
The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Ipecac are Bloody vomiting, GI hemorrhage, Bloodstained diarrhea, Circulatory collapse, Myocardial damage.
Ipecac is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Allergy , Diarrhea, Drowsiness, Lethargy.
