Factor VIII is a blood clotting factor. Factor VIII is used to stop episodes of uncontrollable bleeding in hemophilia and von willebrand's disease.

Indications

Factor VIII is primarily indicated in conditions like Haemophilia, Haemorrhage, Von willebrand's disease.

Factor VIII is also indicated for secondary conditions like Willebrand's disease.

Contraindications

Factor VIII is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to any component of product.

Side Effects

Factor VIII in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Hepatitis , Paraesthexia.

Factor VIII produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Anaphylaxis , Fluminating hepatitis, AIDS . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Factor VIII are Paradoxical hemorrhage, Coombs positive hemolytic anemia.

Factor VIII is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Chills fever, Drowsiness, Dyspnoea, Fulness in head, GI disturbance, Headache, Palpitation, Urticaria, Warm flush.

Warnings / Precautions

It should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. It should be used with cauiton in patients with any pre-existing diseases or any allergies.Before and during injection check heart rate.The dose or rate of infusion may need to be changed if heart rate is too fast. Monitor for development of factor VIII inhibitors, Intravascular haemolysis after large or frequently repeated doses in patients with blood groups A, B or AB
