Indications

Emetine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Amoebic dysentry, Amoebic granulomata, Amoebic skin lesion, Hepatic amoebiasis.

Contraindications

Emetine (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Polyneuritis, Heart disease.

Side Effects

Emetine (HCl) in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Muscular weakness , Abscess formation , Abscess Formation, Neurosis.

Emetine (HCl) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Myocarditis . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

Emetine (HCl) is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Aching joints, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Dyspnea, ECG changes, Fall in BP , Fatigue, GI upset, Headache, Local reactions, Nausea and vomiting, Skin lesion, Stiffiness, Tachycardia, Tenderness , Weakness.

Warnings / Precautions

It can be used in all age groups provided that the precaution are taken. The drug may be used during pregnancy if absolutley essential. The drug should be used in reduced dosage in elderly patients. Patients receiving emetine should be closely supervised. ECG monitoring is advised during treatment with emetine. Avoid emetine in patients with cardiac, renal or neuromuscular diseases.
