Diflunisal is a newer NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) chemically derived from salicyclic acid. It relieves pain and reduces inflammation. Diflunisal is commonly used to treat pain, swelling and stiffness associated with arthritis.

Indications

Diflunisal is primarily indicated in conditions like Dental surgery, Dysmenorrhoea, Mild to moderate pain, Osteoarthritis, Pain, Rheumatoid arthritis, Sprains, Strains.

Contraindications

Diflunisal is contraindicated in conditions like Peptic ulcer, Bronchospasm, Renal diseases.

Side Effects

Diflunisal in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Stevens johnson syndrome , Jaundice , Gi bleeding , Renal failure , Gastric ulceration , Acute interstitial nephritis .

Diflunisal is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Dizziness, GI symptoms, Headache, Tinnitus.

Warnings / Precautions

Diflunisal should be used with caution and lower daily dose in patients with kidney impairment. It should be used with caution in patients with compromised cardiac function, hypertension and other conditions pre-disposing to fluid retension.

Interference in Pathology

Diflunisal may interfere in the diagnosis of Liver Function Test (LFT) .
