Side Effects

Cyproterone (Acetate) in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Azoospermia , Oligozoospermia .

Cyproterone (Acetate) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Jaundice , Hepatic failure. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

Cyproterone (Acetate) is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Decreased FSH, Decreased LDL concentrations, Decreased LH, Decreased libido, Fall in fasting plasma glucose , Fatigue, Gynecomastia, Increased plasma triglycerides, Increased prolactin, Negative nitrogen balance, Weakness.

Warnings / Precautions

Avoid cyproterone in patients with liver disease or malignant or wasting disease, chronic depression, severe diabetes with vascular disease, sickle cell anemia or those with history of thrombo-embolic disorders. It should not be given to immature youths. In men treated with cyproterone, liver function should be monitored before treatment, if any sign or symptoms of hepatotoxicity occur then the treatment should be with drawn. In men with prostate cancer, it may be advisable to limit the duration of treatment. It should be used with caution during pregnancy.

Interference in Pathology

Cyproterone (Acetate) may interfere in the diagnosis of Artefactual increase in cortisol plasma levels by Fluorometry .
