Iron hydroxide poly maltose complex is a water soluble, iron oxide, macromolecular complex of poly nuclear iron (III) hydroxide and partially hydrolysed dextrin ( Polymaltose).It is used in treatment of latent iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia.

Iron Hydroxide Poly Maltose Complex is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Black colour Faeces, Constipation , Diarrhea, dizziness, Epigastric discomfort, Flushing, GI irritation, Heart burn, Joint & muscle pain, Local Inflamation, Nausea, Nausea and vomiting, Sense of repletion, Sweating , Taste disturbance, Tooth discoloration.

Warnings / Precautions

In case of anaemia due to infection or malignancy, the substituted iron is stored in the reticulo-endothelial system from which it is mobilized and utilized only after correcting the primary disease. Discontinue iron salts if symptoms of intolerance appear. Occasional gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort, as nausea may occur which can be minimized by taking it with meals.
