Clopamide is a diuretic reduces the absorption of electrolytes from renal tubule. It increases the urination. Clopamide is used in hypertention to lower the high blood pressure and to treat edema associated with heart failure.

Indications

Clopamide is primarily indicated in conditions like Congestive heart failure, Hepatic disease, Mild to moderate hypertension.

Contraindications

Clopamide is contraindicated in conditions like Gout, Maturity onset diabetes, Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects

Clopamide in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Hyperglycemia , Precipitation of gout , Hyperglycemia, Hypokalemia .

Clopamide produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Decreased BP , Coronary insufficiency. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Clopamide are No cases have been reported.

Clopamide is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Gout, Hepatic failure, Renal failure.

Warnings / Precautions

The drug should be used with extreme caution in diabetic patients because clopamide can worsen diabetic control, raising blood sugar level and may precipitate gout. It should be used with caution in combination with other antihypertensive drugs such as thiazide and loop diuretics, as it increases the urinary excretion of potassium and can cause hypokalemia, potassium supplements are used to treat hypokalemia.

Interference in Pathology

Clopamide may interfere in the diagnosis of Changes in plasma & white cell copper & zinc concentration..
