Disodium Pamidronate is a bisphosphonate, inhibits bone resorption and thus reduces bone turn over. Disodium Pamidronate is used in the treatment of bone disorders in which excessive bone resorption is a problem, such as paget`s disease of bone and osteoporosis. Disodium Pamidronate is also used as an adjunct insevere hypercalcaemic conditions especially associated with malignancies.

Side Effects

Disodium Pamidronate is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Agitation , Anorexia , Arthralgia, Confusion, Conjunctivitis, Constipation , Diarrhea, Dizziness, dyspepsia, Fatigue, Fever, Flushing, Hallucination , Headache, Hypotension , Influenza like syndrome , Insomnia, Lethargy, Local reaction at injection site, Malaise, Muscle cramps, Myalgia, Nausea and vomiting, Pruritus , Rashes , Rigors , Seizures, Somnolence , Thrombophili, Transient bone pain, Transient rise in body temperature.

Warnings / Precautions

Disodium Pamidronate should be used with caution in patients with cardiac desease with renal impairment---monitor renal function in renal disease or predisposition to renal impairment (e.g in multiple myeloma or tumor induced hypercalcaemia); cardiac disease (especially in elderly); previous thyroid surgery (risk of hypocalcaemia); monitor serum electrolyte, calcium and phosphate---possibility of convulsions due to electrolyte changes; avoid concurrent use with other bisphosphonate. DRIVING: Patients should be warned against driving or operating machinery immediately after treatment (somnolence or dizziness may occur)

Interference in Pathology

Disodium Pamidronate may interfere in the diagnosis of Abnormal LFTs .
