Ertapenem
Ertapenem is a broad spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic. Ertapenem is active against gram +ve and gram -ve and anaerobes. Ertapenem is used parentrally in the treatment of abdominal and gynaecological infections and in community-acquired pneumonia.

Indications
Ertapenem is primarily indicated in conditions like Community acquired pneumonia, Gynaecologic infections, Intra-abdominal infections, Skin infections, Urinary tract infection.
Contraindications
Ertapenem is contraindicated in conditions like Breast feeding.

Side Effects
Ertapenem in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Blood clot in vein, Collapsed portion of lung, Decrease Neutrophills.
Ertapenem is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Anorexia , Antibiotic-associated colitis, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Dry mouth, Dyspepsia , Headache, Hypotension , Injection-site reactions, Nausea and vomiting, Pruritus , Raised platelet count, Rashes .

Interference in Pathology
Ertapenem may interfere in the diagnosis of Liver Function Test (LFT) .
