Indications
Piretanide is primarily indicated in conditions like Ascites, Chronic liver disease, Hypertension, Nephrotic syndrome, Oedema in congestive heart failure, Pulmonary edema, Renal insufficiency.
Piretanide is also indicated for secondary conditions like Prophylaxis of renal transplant rejection.
Contraindications
Piretanide is contraindicated in conditions like Gout, Hypovolaemia, Hypokalaemia, Anuria, Hepatic coma, Dehydration, Hypersensitivity, Pregnancy, Lactation.

Side Effects
Piretanide in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Urinary retention, Hyponatremia , Thrombocytopenia , Ototoxicity , Orthostatic hypotension , Leucopenia, Dehydration , Gout .
Piretanide produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Cardiac arrhythmia, Hypotension, Renal failure, Increased renal excretion of Ca, K, Mg. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.
