Side Effects

Riluzole produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Neutropenia . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

Riluzole is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal distress, Anorexia , Asthenia , Dizziness, Headache, Hypertonia, Nausea, Pain , Tachycardia, Vomiting .

Warnings / Precautions

Liver fuction tests should be carried out before and throughout the tratment. White blood cell counts should be determined in fibrile illness and riluzole discontinued if neutripenia occurs. Extreme caution should be excercized in patients with renal impairment or those with a previous history of liver disorders. It should be used with caution while engaging in activities requiring alertness.

Interference in Pathology

Riluzole may interfere in the diagnosis of Abnormal LFTs , Increased Alkaline Phosphatase Levels, +ve Coomb`s tests.
