Side Effects

Sodium Polystyrene Sulphonate in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Potassium depletion , Sodium retention, Cardiac arrhythmias, Irritability , Hypokalemia .

Sodium Polystyrene Sulphonate is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Anorexia , Confusion, Constipation , Diarrhea, ECG changes, Nausea, Vomiting .

Warnings / Precautions

It should be used with caution in patients with renal failure and with conditions requiring a restricted sodium intake such as heart failure and severe hypertension. Patients receiving sodium polystyrene sulfonate should be monitored for electrolyte disturbances especially hypokalemia.
