Indications

Calcium Carbonate is primarily indicated in conditions like Flatulence, Heart burn, Hypocalcaemia, Peptic ulcer, Upset stomach.

Calcium Carbonate is also indicated for secondary conditions like Hyperphosphataemia, Renal failure.

Contraindications

Calcium Carbonate is contraindicated in conditions like Hypercalcaemia, Hyperthyroidism, Hypercalciuria, Nephrolithiasis, Zollinger-ellison syndrome.

Side Effects

Calcium Carbonate in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include hypercalcemia with alkalosis, Hypercalciuria.

Calcium Carbonate produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hypercalcemia, Renal failure. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

Calcium Carbonate is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Acid rebound, Belching, Constipation , Dizziness, Flatulence, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting .

Warnings / Precautions

Calcium carbonate should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease or any allergy, pre-existing cardiac arrhythmias, diarrhoea, malabsorption or diseases associated with elevated vitamin D concentrations such as sarcoidosis. Avoid taking more doses than recommended. Generally calcium salts should be avoided in patients with calcium renal calculi. Plasma-calcium concentrations should be monitored closely in patients with renal insufficiency and during parentral administration and if large doses of vitamin D are used.
