Fosfomycin is analog of phosphoenolpyruvate. Fosfomycin is structurally unrelated to any other antimicrobial agent. Fosfomycin is active against both gram negative and gram positive bacteria. It has been used successfully in the treatment of pneumonia, UTIs, bronchitis, and other respiratory tract infections. Antibiotics require constant drug level in body for therapeutic effect. This is achieved by taking the drug at regular interval of time throughout the day and night as prescribed. Fosfomycin is important to take the drug for the full time period as prescribed. If you discontinue the drug it may result in ineffective treatment.

Side Effects

Fosfomycin is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Asthenia , Diarrhea, Dizziness, Headache, Increased intracranial pressure, Nausea, Vaginitis.
