Description
Carica papaya Linn.. A small soft-wooded, fast growing and short lived tree with milky sap. Palmate, glabrous leaves. Greenish white or cream yellow flowers. Cymose inflorescence. The fruit is oblong, succulent and fragrant, the seeds are dark in colour. A well pollinated fruit may contain as many as 1,200 seeds. The smooth skin of the fruit is green while the fruit is immature and turns yellow to orange as the fruit ripens
