Description

Valeriana officinalis Linn.. A glabrous or more or less pubescent herb, upto 1 m in height. Root stocks short, sub-erect, stoloniferous, stem solitary, erect, furrowed. Leaves pinnately divided, radical, long stalked, cauline, alternate, mostly entire, sometimes toothed. Flowers white or flesh-coloured, fragrant. Fruits oblong-ovate, one seeded, almost hairless at maturity(140). Rhizome short, erect, dark or yellowish-brown externally and whitish or yellowish internally. Roots numerous, slender and brittle, colour same as that of rhizome
