Bacitracin is an antibacterial ploypeptide produced by the growth of a gram positive, spore forming organism belonging to the licheniformis group of Bacillus subtilis. Bacitracin is active against many gram positive bacteria such as staphylococci, streptococci and pneumococci and some gram negative bacteria. Bacitracin is applied topically to the skin or conjunctivita or administered by intramuscular injection in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms

Bacitracin produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Nephrotoxicity, Hypersensitivity . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

Bacitracin is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Anorexia , Azotemia, Blurred vision, Diarrhea, Hypotension , Nausea, Vomiting .
