Sumatriptan
Sumatriptan (Succinate) is a 5-HT 1 agonist. Sumatriptan (Succinate) is given orally or parenterally in acute migraine attacks. It reduces the dilatation of blood vessels associated with throbbing headache. Sumatriptan (Succinate) is not for the prophylaxis of migraine.

Elimination: it is metabolised via MAO, plasma half-life is 2 hr, renal excretion is 60% urine,40% feaces.

Indications
Sumatriptan is primarily indicated in conditions like Cluster headache, Migraine, Treatment of acute migraine attacks.
Contraindications
Sumatriptan is contraindicated in conditions like Diabetes mellitus, Hypertension, Myocardial infarction, Peripheral vascular disease, Ischaemic heart disease, Cerebrovascular accident, Prinzmetal's angina, Hepatic impairment, Coronary artery disease, Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects
Sumatriptan in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Cardiac arrhythmias, Bradycardia , AV-block , Nystagmus , Angina , Atrial fibrillation , Tachycardia , Ventricular fibrillation , Syncope , Seizures , Ventricular tachycardia , Sinus bradycardia , Ischemic colitis, Hypertensive crises , Myocardial infarction .
Sumatriptan produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Myocardial Ischemia . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.
The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Sumatriptan are Diarrhea, Dyspnea, Myalgia.
Sumatriptan is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient.
