Sulpiride is antipsychotic agent with similar action and uses as for chlopromazine. Sulpiride is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, also given for the management of anxiety, vertigo and peptic ulceration.

Contraindications

Sulpiride is contraindicated in conditions like Epilepsy, Phaeochromocytoma, Porphyria.

Side Effects

Sulpiride in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Tardive dyskinesia .

Sulpiride produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hepatitis , Malignant neuroplastic syndrome, Hypertensive crises. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Sulpiride are Hypotension, Confusion , Agitation, Extrapyramidal effects , Restlessness .

Sulpiride is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Acute dystonia, Akathisia, Anxiety, Elevated alkaline phosphatase, Elevated aminotransferase, Excitement, Irritability, Leukopenia, Mood swings, Parkinsonism.

Warnings / Precautions

Sulpiride should be given with care to manic or hypomanic patients in whom it may exacerbate symptoms. It should be used with care during pregnancy, avoid use during lactation. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal function.

Sulpiride may interfere in the diagnosis of Test for Estimating Glucose and Cholestrole Conc. in Serum .
