Silver Sulphadiazine
Silver Sulphadiazine is a topical anti-infective agent with the antibacterial properties of both silver ion and sulfadiazine. Both free silver and the sulfonamide moiety may exert activity, Silver Sulphadiazine is used to prevent and treat infections of wounds caused by second- and third-degree burns. The drug does not inhibit folic acid synthesis as other sulfonamides do, rather disrupts bacteria by damaging the cell membrane and the cell wall. It has a wide spectrum of bactericidal activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.
