Ichthammol

Ichthammol mildly astringent, irritant and local antibacterial agent with moderate emollient and demulcent properties. Ichthammol belongs to a class of preparations contaninig as essential constituents salts or compounds of a mixture of acids designated by the group name sulfoichthyolic acid, formed by the sulfonation of oil obtained in the destructive distillation of certain bituminous shales. Sulfoichthyolic acid is characterized by a high sulfar content, the sulfur existing largely in the form of sulfonates, sulfones & sulftides.

Indications
Ichthammol is primarily indicated in conditions like Carvicitis, Cervicitits, Degenerative diseases of joints, Eczema, Inflammatory skin disease, Otitis externa, Psoriasis, Vaginitis.
Ichthammol is also indicated for secondary conditions like Burns, Insect bites.
Contraindications
Ichthammol is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to the drug, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
