Indications

Etomidate is primarily indicated in conditions like Anaesthesia induction in cardiovascular patients.

Contraindications

Etomidate is contraindicated in conditions like Epilepsy, Porphyrias, Adrenocortical insufficiency.

Side Effects

Etomidate in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Cortisol synthesis inhibition .

Etomidate produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Reduction in serum cortisol. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Etomidate are Rapid fall in BP.

Etomidate is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Involuntry muscle movements, Nausea, Pain at injection site, Vomiting .

Patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, because may cause drowsiness. Patients with chronic disease such as diabetes or hypertension may require adjustment to their therapy before anesthesia. Anesthetics should be given with caution in patients with cardiac, respiratory, renal or hepatic impairment.
