Dinoprost is a natural oxytocic protaglandin. Dinoprost is a synthetic derivative of itone in which the O atom in 9-position of the latter is reduced to OH. Dinoprost is effective as an abortifacient i.e., causing abortion.

Dinoprost is primarily indicated in conditions like Abortion, Haemorrhage, Hydatidiform mole, Labor induction.

Contraindications

Dinoprost is contraindicated in conditions like Asthma, Glucoma, Pelvic infections.

Side Effects

Dinoprost in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Intravascular coagulation.

Dinoprost produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Cardiogenic collapse. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Dinoprost are Collapse, Severe GI symptoms.

Dinoprost is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include bronchoconstriction, Bronchospasm, Diarrhea, dizziness, Flushing, Headache, Nausea, Pyrexia , Shivering , Vomiting , Wheezing .

Warnings / Precautions

Dinoprost should be used with caution in patients with medical history, including any allergy (especially drug allergy), pelvic infections, heart, lungs, kidney or liver diseases, asthma, high or low blood pressure, anemia, diabetes, seizure disorder, infections in the vaginal area. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy or lactation.
