loteprednol (as Loteprednol Etabonate) contains a sterile, topical anti-inflammatory corticosteroid for ophthalmic use. Loteprednol etabonate is a white to off white powder.chemically it is chloromethyl 17a-[(ethoxycarbonyl)oxy]-11ß-hydroxy-3-oxoandrosta-1,4-diene-17ß-carboxylate. It is used in ophthalmic solution for the treatment of steroid responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye.

Side Effects

loteprednol is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include anterior chamber inflammation, elevated intraocular presure, Eye Pain , Foreign body sensation, herpes simplex, posterior subcapsular cataract formation.

Warnings / Precautions

Intraocular pressure (IOP) increase - Prolonged use of corticosteroids may result in glaucoma with damage to theoptic nerve, defects in visual acuity and fields of vision. If thisproduct is used for 10 days or longer, IOP should be monitored.Cataracts , delay healing after cataract surgery,bacterial infection, viral infection, funcl infection,patients should not wear contact lenes during their course of therapy with loteprednol.
