Insulin detemir is a long-acting human insulin analogue for maintaining the basal level of insulin. Insulin detemir differs from human insulin in that the amino acid threonine in position B30 has been omitted, and a C14 fatty acid chain has been attached to the amino acid B29.

Indications

For patients who require twice-daily dosing for effective blood glucose control, the evening dose can be administered either with the evening meal, at bedtime, or 12 hours after the morning dose.
0.15 U/kg	0.15 U/kg	—	SC	This dose is for insulin-naive patients with type 2 diabetes who are inadequately controlled on oral antidiabetic drugs.

Side Effects

Insulin Detemir in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Rashes, Sweating , Blurred vision , Wheezing .

Insulin Detemir produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Shortness of breath. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Insulin Detemir are Coma, Seizures, Hypoglycemia.

Insulin Detemir is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Allergic reactions, Hypersensitivity , lipodystropy, Weight gain.

Warnings / Precautions

Glucose should be regularly monitored in all patients with diabetes. Glucose detimer is not to be used in insulin infusion pumps. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had nerve damage caused by your diabetes, liver or kidney disease. If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using insulin detemir.

Interference in Pathology

Insulin Detemir may interfere in the diagnosis of Monitoring of blood and urine glucose.
