Oxaliplatin is the platinum-containing complex similar to cisplatin. This agent was recently approved for use as a second line therapy in metastatic colorectal cancer. Neurotoxicity is its dose limiting side effect and characterized by peripheral sensory neuropathy.

Indications
Oxaliplatin is primarily indicated in conditions like Cervical carcinoma, Cyclical benign breast disease, Germ cell tumors, Neurogenic bladder, Ovarian cancer.
Oxaliplatin is also indicated for secondary conditions like Severe nausea, vomiting (acute attacks).
Contraindications
Oxaliplatin is contraindicated in conditions like Peripheral neuropathy, Pregnancy, Breast feeding.

Side Effects
Oxaliplatin in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Bone marrow depression .
Oxaliplatin is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Alopecia, Gastrointestinal disturbances, Myelosuppression, Nausea and vomiting, Ototoxicity , Sensory peripheral neuropathy.
