Nateglinide is an orally effective insulin secretagogue derived from D-phenylalanine.it stimulates insulin secretion by inhibiting ATP-sensitive potassium channels in pancreatic ß-cells. Nateglinide is apprivrd by FDA for the management of type II diabetes mellitus and is more effective when given preprandially.

Side Effects

Substitute insulin during intercurrent illness (such as myocardial infarction, coma, infection and trauma) and during surgery; debilitated and malnourished patients; moderate hepatic impairment (avoid if severe).
