Chlorzoxazone is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant with sedative properties. Chlorzoxazone is used as an adjunct in the symptomatic treatment of painful muscle spasm. It inhibits muscle spasm by exerting its effect at the level of the spinal cord and subcortical area of the brain. Chlorzoxazone is usually given with analgesics in compound preparations.

Side Effects

Chlorzoxazone in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Respiratory depression , Hypotension , Hypotension .

Warnings / Precautions

Chlorzoxazone should not be given to patients with impaired liver function and should be discontinued if signs of liver toxicity appear. Patient should be advised to report the doctor if any sign or symptom of possible liver toxicity appear such as fever, rash, jaundice, dark urine, anorexia, nausea, vomiting or right upper quadrant pain. The drug should only be used in pregnancy if clearly needed. Patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness. The urine of the patient taking chlorzoxazone may be coloured orange or reddish-purple by a phenolic metabolite.
