Indications

Insulin Lispro is primarily indicated in conditions like Iddm, Type II diabetes mellitus.

Contraindications

Insulin Lispro is contraindicated in conditions like Hypoglycaemia, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.

It may be administered by continuous subcutaneous infusion by an external insulin pump. Do not use diluted or mixed insulins in external insulin pumps. Infusion sites should be rotated within the same region to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy . Change insulin lispro in the reservoir at least every 7 days, change the infusion sets and the infusion set insertion site at least every 3 days.

Side Effects

Insulin Lispro in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Wheezing , Hypoglycemia, Hives, Lipoatrophy, Muscle Cramps, Difficulty in breathing.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Insulin Lispro are Coma.

Insulin Lispro is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Allergic reactions, Constipation , Cough , Headache, Infection, Peripheral edema, Pharyngitis, Redness, Rhinitis , Swelling at injection site, Swelling of feet.

Warnings / Precautions

Hypoglycemia is the most common adverse effect associated with insulins, including insulin lispro. As with all insulins, the timing of hypoglycemia may differ among various insulin formulations. Glucose monitoring is recommended for all patients with diabetes. Any change of insulin should be made cautiously and only under medical supervision. The requirements for insulin may be reduced in patients with renal impairment. Although impaired hepatic function does not affect the absorption or disposition of insulin lispro, careful glucose monitoring and dose adjustments of insulin, including Humalog, may be necessary.

Interference in Pathology

Insulin Lispro may interfere in the diagnosis of Monitoring of blood and urine glucose.
