Cilostazole is a vasodilator and an inhibitor of platelet agreggation. Cilostazole is used in the management of some peripheral vascular disorders.Cilostozol is a newer phosphodiesterase inhibitor that promotes vasodilation and inhibition of platelet aggregation. cilostozol is used primary to treat intermittant claudication.

Indications

Cilostazole is primarily indicated in conditions like Intermittant claudication, Long-term treatment of reflux oesophagitis, Peripheral vascular disease.

Cilostazole is also indicated for secondary conditions like Secondary prevention of ischaemic stroke and tias.

Side Effects

Cilostazole in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Angina , Oedema , Palpitation , Rhinitis , Rhinitis , Abnormal stools.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Cilostazole are Cardiac arrhythmias, Tachycardia , Diarrhea, Hypotension.

Cilostazole is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Diarrhea, Dizziness, Headache, Irregular heart beat, Palpitation, Rashes , Shortening of breath, Sore throat.

Warnings / Precautions

The patient should be carefully observed and given supportive treatment. Since cilostazol is highly protein-bound, it is unlikely that it can be efficiently removed by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.Advise patients to report any episode of bleeding or bruising. Atrial ventricular ectopy atrial fibrillation or flufter, diabetes.

Interference in Pathology

Cilostazole may interfere in the diagnosis of Abnormal LFTs , Increased blood glucose level.
