A pro-drug of acyclovir, used for herpes zoster and herpes simplex infections of the skin and mucous membranes, It is used for preventing cytomegalovirus diseases following renal transplantation. Non-dose-limiting confusion and hallucinations are the most frequent side effects.

Valaciclovir (HCl) is also indicated for secondary conditions like Prevention of cytomagalo virus.

Side Effects
