Gallopamil

Gallopamil is a derivative of verapamil, a calcium channel blocking drug. It decreases coronary vascular resistance and increases coronary blood flow. Gallopamil is used in myocardial infarction (MI), angina pectoris and cardiac arrhythmias.

Distribution: Gallopamil has a volume of distribution is 145 litre. plasma protein binding is 85 - 90 %.
Elimination: plasma half-life is 2.5 - 5.5 hr, renal excretion is < 1% unchanged.

Indications
Gallopamil is primarily indicated in conditions like Angina, Cardiac arrhythmia, Hypertension.
Contraindications
Gallopamil is contraindicated in conditions like Heart failure, Cardiogenic shock, Hypotension, Atrial fibrillation, Sick sinus syndrome, Atrioventricular block, Renal insufficiency, Hepatic insufficiency.

Side Effects
Gallopamil in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Worsening of left heart failure.
Gallopamil produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Congestive failure. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.
The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Gallopamil are Hypotension, Orthostatic hypotension, Cardiogenic shock, Change in atrioventricular conduction.
Gallopamil is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient.
