Ticlopidine (HCl) reduces platelet aggregation. Ticlopidine (HCl) acts by producing changes (may be irreversible) to the platelet membrane reducing their ability to form blood clots with fibrin. itused in combination with other antiplatelet drugs to reduce the risk of further thrombolytic events. itperticularly useful in patients who cannot tolerate aspirin.

Side Effects

Ticlopidine (HCl) in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Aplastic anemia , Hepatic necrosis , Jaundice , Peptic ulceration , Renal failure , Stevens johnson syndrome .

Ticlopidine (HCl) is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Anorexia , Dizziness, Flatulence, GI hemorrhage, Headache, Hematuria, Increased intracranial pressure, Menorrhagia , Neutropenia, Pain , Pancytopenia , Pruritus , Rashes , Thrombocytopenia, Vomiting , Weakness.

Warnings / Precautions

Ticlopidine should be used with extreme caution in patients with history of bleeding disorder, ulcers, liver problems or low blood count. It should be used with caution during pregnancy or lactation.

Interference in Pathology

Ticlopidine (HCl) may interfere in the diagnosis of Interferes with LFT .
