Toxicity

Hydrargyri subchloridum

Effects: Sore throat, coughing, pain, tightness in chest, breathing difficulties, shortness of breath and headache

Due to INHALATION of Calomel which causes irritation to the respiratory tract. Pneumonitis may develop. Can be absorbed through inhalation with symptoms to parallel ingestion. <b>Mangment:</B> Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.

Hydrargyri subchloridum

Dose: 1 gm

Effects: Burning of the mouth and pharynx, abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody diarrhea

Due to INGESTION of Calomel. May be followed by a rapid and weak pulse, shallow breathing, paleness, exhaustion, tremors and collapse. Delayed death may occur from renal failure. <B>Managment:</B> Induce vomiting immediately as directed by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention.

Effects: Redness and pain

Due to SKIN CONTACT. May cause burns and/or sensitization. Can be absorbed through the skin with symptoms to parallel ingestion. <B>Managment:</B> Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.

Effects: Eye irritaion, eye damage

Due to EYE CONTACT. Causes irritation to eyes, may cause burns and eye damage. <B>Managment:</B> Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately.
