Description

Potassium aluminium sulphate. Alum is an inorganic compound that generally contains double sulphate groups (SO4) and water. Common alum means potash alum, a double salt of potassium sulfate and ammonium sulfate. Medicinal alum is composed of colourless, transparent crystals, with acid, sweetish, astringent taste. Crystals are obtained by dissolving available raw material from market in boiling water and by evaporating whole water (178). Alum is soluble in hot water but less in cold water.
