Description

Asphaltum. Silajit is a blackish-brown exudation from steep rocks of different formations. It exudes from the rocks of mountains in summer season due to strong heat of the sun(186). It is also regarded as a tar formed in the earth from the decomposition of vegetable substances mixed with inorganic matter, or ejected out matter of rocks during hot weather in the lower Himalayas.

The pharmacological actions of Asphaltum are Alterative tonic, Anodyne, Anti-phlegmatic, Anti-phlegmatic expectorant, Anti-phlogistic, Anti-septic, Cholagogue, Disinfectant, Diuretic, Lithontriptic, Local Antiseptic, Mild Laxative, Respiratory Stimulant.
