Description

Juglans regia Linn.. A large deciduous monoecious tree. Bark grey, longitudinally fissured. Wood greyish-brown, often fissured or mottled with darker streaks. Leaves alternate, imparipinnate; leaflets 5-13, elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, subsessile, usually entire, 9.1-24.4 cm x 4.6-18.2 cm. Flowers small, yellowish green; male in pendulous slender catkins and female in terminal catkins. Drupes green, with coriaceous exocarp, indehiscent, ellipsoid-globose; endocarp hard, warinkled, 2-valved, enclosing 4 lobed corrugated silky seeds
