Dimenhydrinate is a H1 antihistaminic or antiemetic agent. It provides relief of symptoms of allergic reactions such as rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itchy eyes and sneezing. It may also be used to treat motion sickness, relief of anxiety or tension and sleeplessness. Administered orally.

Absorption: Dimenhydrinate has an oral bioavailability is 93% (±3%), pre-systemic (first-pass) metabolism accounts for 25% (±25%).

Distribution: Dimenhydrinate has a volume of distribution is 3.28 l/kg. plasma protein binding is 85-98%.

Elimination: plasma half-life is 2.4-8 hr.

Indications

Dimenhydrinate is primarily indicated in conditions like Dizziness, Menieres disease, Motion sickness, Nausea and vomiting, Vertigo, Vestibular disorders.

Contraindications

Dimenhydrinate is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to the drug, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.

Side Effects

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Dimenhydrinate are Convulsions , Drowsiness, Drowsiness.

Dimenhydrinate is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Arthralgia, Diarrhea, dizziness, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Headache, Increased appetite, Nausea, nervousness, Pharyngitis, Weight gain, Xerostomia .
