Abciximab
Abciximab is a mouse or human chimeric monoclonal antibody that blocks IIb/IIIa receptors. It prevents clotting or sticking of platelets (blood cell) together. Abciximab is a new drug and has been approved by the FDA as an adjunctive therapy in patients undergoing high risk angioplasty and atherectomy.

Indications
Abciximab is primarily indicated in conditions like A variety of solid tumors, Acute leukemia, Adjunct to angioplasty, Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, Lymphomas, Moderate to severe reflux oesophagitis, Myocardial infarction prophylaxis, Secondry bacterial infection of acute bronchitis.
Abciximab is also indicated for secondary conditions like 5-fu therapy, Abdominal bleeding.
Contraindications
Abciximab is contraindicated in conditions like Thrombocytopenia, Cerebrovascular accident, Vasculitis, Bleeding diathesis, Intracranial neoplasm, Hypersensitivity, GI bleeding, Active internal bleeding, Severe uncontrolled hypertension.

Side Effects
Abciximab in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Sinus bradycardia , Thrombocytopenia .
Abciximab produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Bleeding , Anaphylaxis , Stroke. Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.
Abciximab is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Backache , Confusion, Fever, Hematoma, Hypotension , Nausea, Vasculitis, Vision disturbances, Vomiting .
