Side Effects

Promazine (HCl) in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Abnormal liver function , Arteriolar spasm , Extrapyramidal symptoms, Gangrene , Obstructive jaundice , Parkinsonism , Thrombophlebitis .

Promazine (HCl) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Agranulocytosis, Leucopenia . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Promazine (HCl) are Coma, Seizures, Hallucinations , Ataxia, Respiratory depression, Grand Mal Seizures (epilepsy), Restlessness , Sedation , Excitation , Rapid fall in BP, CNS excitation, Anxiety , Sleepiness, Deep sleep, Akathisia .

Promazine (HCl) is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Blurred vision, Breast enlargement, Confusion, Constipation , Drowsiness, Dry mouth, Epilepsy, Hypotension , Nasal congestion , Postural hypotension, Tachycardia, Urinary hesitancy.

Warnings / Precautions

Promazine should be used with caution in patients exposed to extreme heat or phosphorus insecticides, patients in state of alcohol withdrawal, patients with history of peptic ulcer, allergic reactions, with renal (kidney) impairment, prostatic hypertropy. Photosensitization may occur, caution patients against exposure to sunlight or UV light. Discontinue use atleast 48 hr before myelography.

Interference in Pathology

Promazine (HCl) may interfere in the diagnosis of Estimation of alkaloids,barbiturates,17-ketosteroids,17-hydroxycorticosteroids in urine. , Estimation of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid,protein & salicylates in urine. .
