Distribution: Levorphanol has a volume of distribution is 10 - 13 l/kg. plasma protein binding is 40 %.

Elimination: it is metabolised via Hepatic, plasma half-life is 11 hr.

Levorphanol is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjunct to anesthesia, As a premedicant, Pain, Surgical anaesthesia.

Contraindications

Levorphanol is contraindicated in conditions like Depression, Heart failure, Hypovolaemia, Respiratory disease, Hypersensitivity.

Side Effects

Levorphanol in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Hypotension , Hypotension , Urinary retention, Rhabdomyolysis , Dizziness , Respiratory depression , Cough , Urinary retention.

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Levorphanol are Nausea, Cardiac arrhythmias, Convulsions , Coma, Urinary retention, Emesis, Hyperventilation, Bradypnea, Airway obstruction, Urticaria.

Levorphanol is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Circulatory failure, Constipation , Faintness , Headache, Hypotension , Nausea and vomiting, Rashes , Vomiting .

Warnings / Precautions

Levorphanol should be used with caution in patients with central nervous system (CNS) depression, convulsive disorder, ulcerative colitis, fever, recent gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, bradyarrhythmias, supraventricular tachycardia, pulmonary diseases. Patients should exercise caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness because it may produce drowsiness. Cautions should be taken in allergic patients. Alcohol should be avoided while using levorphanol.
