Side Effects

Efavirenz in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Insomnia , Amnesia.

Efavirenz is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Abnormal dreams, Anxiety, Crystalluria , Diarrhea, Dizziness, Elevated liver enzyme, Fatigue, Fetal Hepatitis, Headache, Nausea, Pruritus , Rashes , Sinusitis , Sleep disturbance, Suicidal ideations, Vomiting .

Warnings / Precautions

Chronic hepatitis B or C (greatest risk of hepatic side effects), hepatic impairment (avoid if severe); severe renal impairment; pregnancy; elderly; history of mental illness or seizures. RASH: rash usually in first 2 weeks, is the most common side effect; discontinue if severe rash or if rash accompanied by blistering, oral lesions, conjunctivitis, facial oedema, general malaise, or hypersensitivity reaction; if rash mild to moderate may continue without interruption but usually resolves within 1 month.

Interference in Pathology

Efavirenz may interfere in the diagnosis of Liver Function Test (LFT) .
